The gastrointestinal specialists at Gastroenterology Associates, P.C. are equipped to handle gastrointestinal problems ranging from small problems to issues that are more serious. Not only can the gastrointestinal specialists handle your gastrointestinal problems, we have also partnered with the University of Iowa to have pediatric gastroenterologists who can help diagnose and treat problems that your child or baby may be having. We provide this kind of care because we understand what you're going through and want to help make your life better.
You are always encouraged to ask questions during your visit and with the new information that is easily accessible on the different areas of the website, your knowledge of procedures and treatments can hopefully grow. Colonoscopy & Endoscopy Videos
The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) has produced educational videos for patients to learn about endoscopic procedures and the conditions they are used to diagnose and treat. ASGE doctors walk viewers through both procedures featuring real patients from preparation instructions to what happens during the procedures and what to expect after the exams. View these videos.
What You Need to Know for the Day of Your Procedure
- Check-in - When you arrive at our center we ask that you check-in at the registration desk to verify personal, escort and insurance information. We ask that you arrive 60 minutes prior to your procedure.
- Following Admission - After checking in at our center, you will be brought to your private room, where the nurse will do a health interview and prepare you for your procedure. At the appropriate time you will be escorted to the procedure room. During your procedure your driver will stay in a waiting area and will be rejoined when you are discharged.
What You Need the Day of the Procedure
- Information To Bring - Insurance cards, photo ID, Medicare or Medical Assistance information, numbers and addresses. Also, please bring a list of your current medications with the dosage and when last taken.
- Driver - You must plan to have someone over 18 to drive you home. Do not plan to use taxis or other public transportation. A friend, relative or dedicated caregiver must be in the facility during your procedure.
- Legal Guardian - A legal guardian must be in the center at all times for children and dependent adults.
Post Care
Once you are in stable condition, you will be discharged. It is normal to experience sleepiness for 12 to 24 hours after your procedure.You will receive verbal and written post procedure care instructions (please follow these instructions). Your driver must be available to discuss and sign these instructions before you will be allowed to go home. If you experience anything unusual after your procedure, please call your physician or go to the nearest emergency room. A nurse from our center will call you the following business day after your surgery to check on your recovery.
Transportation
Do not plan to drive yourself home or use public transportation after your procedure.
